Employee must be able to lift 40 pounds, stand for extended periods of time, and perform duties that require repetitive movements, pushing, pulling and reaching throughout the work day. Employee must have working knowledge and understanding of safety and sanitation practices and procedures, and demonstrate the ability to read and understand labels. Full-time, regular, fiscal year position, 40 hours per week, 5 days per week. Daily work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work required. Employee serves as a working coordinator for University Park. Employee performs manual work as necessary to maintain orderliness, appearance and sanitation. Employee coordinates maintenance activities at the Park involving trades workers and contractors as necessary and maintains open lines of communications with Park residents to ensure timely resolution of maintenance issues. Employee receives written and verbal assignments from a supervisor.
Job duties:
- Maintains appearance of grounds, which may include picking up/disposing of trash/debris around dumpsters, shop, apartments and grounds in general. Notifies Park manager of safety/rule violations by tenants.
- Communicates with Park residents and potential residents; shows apartments. Maintains effective communication with Park residents, management and tradespeople.
- Maintains and utilizes checklists regarding the status of maintenance and cleaning of apartments at move-in and move-out. Maintains an inventory of all buildings’ furnishings such as appliances and blinds; recommends replacement, repair or refurbishing; coordinates selected mode.
- Responds to maintenance requests; performs minor maintenance to apartments and properties not requiring a licensed tradesperson; arranges for repairs or services to be provided by tradespeople as appropriate.
- Replaces various kinds of light bulbs, normally at heights of twelve feet or less.
- Accompanies/assists tradespeople as necessary.
- Responds to the inquiries of outside contractors.
- Maintains security of campus buildings including checking, opening, closing and locking doors and windows.
- Mows grass, waters lawns, feeds and trims shrubs, tends flower beds and inspects assigned work areas regularly to insure proper standards are maintained. Operates and may perform minor maintenance on vehicles and a variety of equipment, including special equipment including snow plow, snow blower, and lawn mower.
- Cleans walks and removes snow.
- Performs minor mechanical work and adjustments on all lawn and grounds equipment.
- Supervises student and temporary employees during a minor portion of the employee’s work time.
- Occasionally performs hand painting.
- May occasionally transport and deliver supplies and other light items.
Knowledge / Skill Requirements: Demonstrated exemplary customer service experience; proven communication and interpersonal skills to be able to interact with coworkers, supervisor, building occupants and the general public to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction. Demonstrated experience performing minor maintenance of buildings, grounds and equipment. Knowledge of basic computer applications and the principles of monitoring and maintaining inventory. Demonstrated knowledge of safety principles with the ability to understand Material Safety Data Sheets and pass required safety training. Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team environment is essential. The Department of Psychology at the University of Maine invites applications for a
tenure- track, academic-year Assistant Professor of clinical psychology to begin

teaching experience and/or potential. As a core faculty member in a well established
APA-accredited clinical program, the successful applicant is required to have a strong
background in adult psychopathology and related clinical experiences, as well as an

Assistant Professor of Accounting

The Maine Business School at the University of Maine invites applications for a tenure track, academic-year Assistant Professor of Accounting to begin Fall 2012 or Spring 2013. Our primary teaching need is in Auditing and Financial Statement Analysis, but other areas of expertise will be considered. Teaching Principles of Accounting classes may be required. The successful candidate is required to have a Ph.D in Accounting from an AACSB-accredited program by date of hire, demonstrated evidence of high-quality teaching ability, and demonstrated ability to engage in quality research leading to publications in peer-reviewed journals in accounting. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also required.
The expected teaching load per semester for tenure-track faculty is two or three classes with no more than two preparations per semester. Candidates may be required to teach using distance delivery technology and should foster collaborative relationships with the business community. The Advanced Structures and Composites Center at the University of Maine, a leader in composite, boat building and offshore wind technology seeks an innovative and experienced executive with entrepreneurial and innovative ideas to fill the position of Business Development Executive for Offshore Wind Energy R&D. The Center, an 87,000 ft² laboratory with a world leading team of over 120 faculty, staff and students, conducts research with a variety of public and private entities developing the next generation of low-cost high-performance composite materials.
The successful candidate will create partnerships that promote investment in innovation, which will extend the impact of the University of Maine’s research in deep water offshore wind technology. Minimum Qualifications: A master’s degree in student personnel, education management or administration, or related field and substantial experience in the residential life professional field (more than 7 years); or an equivalent combination of related experience and education are required. Doctorate preferred. Previous experience developing and implementing a departmental strategic plan is required. Demonstrated creativity, self-motivation, and organizational skills to operate a complex department with comprehensive and diverse residential responsibilities are also required. Strategic leadership abilities, excellent oral and written communication skills, a proven ability to be an innovator and a team player, a commitment to helping students, with a positive and flexible approach are also required. Previous experience supervising student and professional employees, a demonstrated student-centered philosophy and approach are essential.
Salary Range: $75,000-$85,000.

Tech Wizard Assistant

The University of Maine Cooperative Extension is seeking a Tech Wizard Assistant for the 4-H Tech Wizards Project at the 4-H Camp and Learning Center at Bryant Pond, Maine. The setting is an environmental outdoor, residential, learning center for youth and adults. This is a full-time, fiscal year position contingent upon funding and successful job performance. Initial funding is available through December 31, 2012. This position is designed to work with a minimum of 180 youth and teens in a mentoring and technology service-learning initiative. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Teach a clear understanding of service-learning; teach positive youth development technology education to young people from 4th to 12th grade; teach advanced technology skills including robotics, GIS/GPS, Digital Media, and be familiar with the MLTI DOE school computer initiative; work with adult and older teen volunteers in mentoring and service-learning roles; support the research of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) educational resource, write lesson and unit plans, and pilot new teaching curricula; demonstrate strong computer skills; especially in digital media, GIS/GPA mapping and MLTI technology; act as professional liaison to school leaders and non-profit organizations; seek ways to reach under-served and under-represented audiences while ensuring compliance with affirmative action, equal opportunity and civil rights requirements; perform other reasonably related duties as assigned. Naval Architect of Floating Structures (Engineer IV)

The Advanced Structures and Composites Center at the University of Maine seeks an innovative and experienced engineer with experience in floating offshore structures to direct, manage and oversee development in wind technology. This position is expected to develop industrial client partnerships in the offshore wind industry and develop proposals for federal, state and industry-funded R&D programs. The research facility is an 87,000 ft² laboratory with a world leading team of over 120 faculty, staff and students conducting research with a variety of public and private entities developing the next generation of low-cost high-performance composite materials.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in Naval Architecture or related Engineering is strongly preferred. Master’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering or a related Engineering field is required with at least five years relevant professional experience. EIT certificate required. Substantial experience in project management is preferred. Substantial experience in the following areas is preferred: floating offshore structure design (sizing, stability calculations, structural design, fatigue, relevant design codes); scale model testing in wave basin including scaling laws, test design, and instrumentation; full-scale instrumentation systems for offshore platforms; floating platform deployment methods; mooring and anchor design; finite element modeling and engineering design. Experience in the design of offshore wind structures is desirable. Proficiency in naval architecture software (HARP, etc.) is required. Knowledgeable of ABS, US Coast Guard, OSHA, EPA and other federal regulations regarding offshore floating structures is preferred. Demonstrated ability to work productively in a team environment required. Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Experience in student research preferred. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and constant deadlines.

The Maine Center for Research in STEM Education (RiSE) at the University of Maine invites applications for the position of Placement and Professional Development Coordinator for the Maine Physical Sciences Partnership, an innovative, multi-million dollar, research and development effort funded by the National Science Foundation for five years. The Maine Physical Sciences Partnership (PSP) brings together University of Maine faculty, staff and students, approximately 50 Maine schools, and Maine non-profits involved in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education to target the improvement of teaching and learning of physical sciences in grades 6-9 and the recruitment, preparation and retention of science and mathematics teachers. Responsibilities of the Placement and Professional Development Coordinator will include designing and coordinating the recruitment, selection, professional development, placement, and evaluation of undergraduate learning assistants, teaching partners, and undergraduate research assistants in the PSP. The Placement and Professional Development Coordinator will also assist with preparing sections of reports and other communications related to these programs. Supervision of student workers and management of timelines and schedules are also part of the Placement and Professional Development Coordinator’s responsibilities.
The successful candidate must have a BS or BA in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) discipline or in STEM education, or equivalent, have demonstrated effectiveness as a science teacher in the middle or high school grades, and have experience in planning and leading professional development for teachers, undergraduates, and/or graduate students. Evidence of in-depth understanding of physical sciences concepts taught in standards-based middle and high school grades is also required. Exceptionally strong organizational abilities and written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills are essential. Preference will be given to those who show familiarity with discipline-based education research and guided inquiry instruction in science.
This job is performed primarily in an office setting, although some visits to partnering schools will be required. The position is contingent upon funding and successful job performance. Expectations are for a normal 40-hour work week, although the Placement and Professional Development Coordinator will be expected to attend occasional evening or weekend meetings and events. Native American Programs at the University of Maine invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor position in Native American Studies with a primary focus on research and outreach with Wabanaki Tribal Nations in Maine – Passamaquoddy, Penobscot, Houlton Band of Maliseets and Aroostook Band of Micmacs. The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at the University of Maine: Invites applications for a tenure-track position in food processing at the Assistant Professor level, with appointment to begin September 1, 2012. Applicants must hold a doctorate in food science and/or technology or a closely related field at the time of appointment and demonstrate evidence of outstanding research, grant writing, and teaching potential. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate introduction to food science, food processing laboratory, food engineering principles, field experience and graduate courses including food preservation. Advising of undergraduate and graduate students is expected. Area of processing research specialization is open but Maine’s largest food industries are fruit, vegetable and seafood processing. Grain, meat and beverage processing are also increasing within the state. Research collaboration with other faculty within the Department and in other disciplines on and off campus is encouraged. A key scholarship responsibility of this faculty member will be service as the food processing authority for the state by testing several hundred food samples and reviewing processing procedures annually. The faculty member will approve processes for acid and acidified foods for the Maine Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Resources as part of their licensing procedure for food processors. A dedicated laboratory, in addition to a research laboratory, and a full-time research associate, will be provided to conduct these reviews. The direct reporting portfolio for the Vice President for Enrollment Management (VPEM) includes the offices of Admissions, New Student Programs, Student Financial Aid, Student Records, and Student Employment, as well as the areas of undergraduate international admissions and recruitment of international graduate students (expanding this portfolio may be considered in the future). The VPEM works collaboratively with colleagues responsible for billing, first- and second-year programs, and graduate admissions to create seamless, efficient, and appealing processes and services for prospective and continuing students. This individual is the chief enrollment planner at the university. In collaboration with program directors and the campus academic community, the VPEM sets enrollment targets and implements growth strategies for all UMaine programs to foster optimal enrollment of qualified students. The VPEM will also work closely with University Relations personnel to develop print and electronic admissions materials while integrating admissions-related marketing and communications tactics and strategies into the university’s overall marketing strategy. S/he will direct and innovate the use of Web-based technology in recruitment, application, and student services. Postdoctoral Research Associate in Forest Soils

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position in Forest Soils is available at the University of Maine. The position is supported by National Science Foundation funding and will emphasize the use of stable isotope tracer techniques to evaluate nitrogen biogeochemistry at a long-term experimental paired forest watershed study site. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be part of a collaborative team of soil scientists, stream ecologists, geochemists, and microbiologists. Studies will investigate nitrogen cycling through vegetation, litter, soils, soil solutions and streams in a reference watershed and an adjacent watershed that has been subjected to 22+ years of experimental acidification and nitrogen enrichment. Collaborators directly involved with this project represent the Department of Plant, Soil and Environmental Sciences, School of Biology and Ecology, Department of Earth Sciences, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the Climate Change Institute, and the USDA Forest Service.
The successful candidate must have an earned PhD in forest soils, ecology, biogeochemistry or related discipline. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies, are required. Experience in both field and laboratory research, and in the application of stable isotope tracer techniques in ecological research, are highly desirable. The ability to develop manuscripts, proposals and deliver presentations as well as the ability to travel, normally requiring a valid driver’s license, are fundamental to this position. The initial appointment is for one year, with a maximum duration of 3 years. Appropriate background checks will be required. Salary is $40,000.
